Community Correctional Services (CCS) contributes to the safety of the community by applying practices that reduce reoffending and connect individuals to programs, services and community We are committed to the delivery of responsive and culturally appropriate services that meet the objectives of the department's Aboriginal Justice Agreements.
About the role
The Aboriginal Case Manager will be responsible for managing both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal clients on court orders by conducting risk assessments, preparing case plans, providing interventions, and addressing the underlying causes of offending. You will provide culturally sensitive support to clients to successfully complete their court orders, while balancing risks to community safety.
You may also be required to provide advice to the Koori Court to assist in the sentencing process. The unique purpose of this role is that it will be responsible for developing and implementing cultural support plans for Aboriginal clients and working with Aboriginal justice networks to identify appropriate support to strengthen case management outcomes for clients.
Please note while primarily based in Mildura, occasional travel to Robinvale may be required.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal Community
- the ability to effectively engage with local support services and the Koori Court in the case management of individuals
- an understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both socially and culturally, and the issues impacting on it
- an understanding of, or experience in, effective case management practices including proactively managing risk of complex individuals
- an understanding of, or experience in, modelling pro-social behaviours, with the ability to motivate and influence individuals who are being case managed
- assertiveness and confidence in dealing with individuals exhibiting challenging behaviours.
