About us
Community Correctional Services (CCS) contributes to the safety of the community by applying practices that reduce reoffending and connect individuals to programs, services and community. CCS provides management of individuals on court orders, people who have committed serious sex offences on post sentence supervision and prisoners on parole.
CCS plays a vital role in contributing to the safety of the community by:
- Applying case management practice that reduces reoffending,
- Engaging individuals to build responsibility, and
- Connecting individuals to programs, services and community.
About the role
Corrections Victoria is committed to the delivery of responsive and culturally appropriate services that meet the objectives of the department's Aboriginal Justice Agreements.
This is a unique opportunity to work across three key domains of;
- Case Management of Aboriginal persons sentenced to a Community Correction Order reporting to the Coolaroo Justice Services Centre;
- Provide Court Advice & Prosecutions Services (CAPS) to the Broadmeadows Koori Court sitting at the Broadmeadows Magistrates Court; and
- Stakeholder Engagement with Aboriginal Community Organisations
Experience working with and for the Aboriginal community of the northern suburbs of Melbourne and an understanding of the challenges faced by this community in engaging with the legal system in Victoria is required for this role.
Comprehensive training in Case Management and Court Advice & Prosecutions Services (CAPS) will be provided, as part of an initial period of pre-service training.
Working hours are Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 5:00pm.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Koori Community
- an understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both socially and culturally, and the issues impacting on it
- an understanding of, or experience in, effective case management practices including proactively managing risk of complex individuals
- an understanding of, or experience in, modelling pro-social behaviours, with the ability to motivate and influence individuals who are being case managed
- assertiveness and confidence in dealing with individuals exhibiting challenging behaviours.
