The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Industry Supervisor to provide a critical role at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre.
About the Business Unit
Located at Ravenhall, Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC) is a 694-bed maximum-security facility for female offenders located within the West Metropolitan Area. The focus of DPFC is rehabilitation via individual case management, employment, education, training and also the provision of programs and targeted interventions to address offending behaviour and promote the development of prosocial behaviour.
About the Role
Prison Industry Supervisors are team leaders in the prison environment. The roles require leadership, maturity, sound judgement and confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor, motivate or council staff and prisoners when required. With highly developed communication and negotiation skills, the prison industry supervisor leads and manages industry staff to achieve program and service outcomes in a multidisciplinary team and rehabilitative environment.
This multifaceted role encompasses human resource management, coaching and developing staff and prisoners, OH&S requirements, E.E.O. legislation responsibilities, training requirements and budget & procurement monitoring.
An important facet of their role involves liaison with internal staff and external stakeholders and preparation of analytical and informed contributions to develop and deliver programs and processes.
Some of your duties will include:
- Train, supervise and support staff in all aspects of prison industry operations including prisoner training and assessment, case management, program and service knowledge and involvement, maintenance of professional boundaries and contribution to prison and prison industry security management procedures.
- Oversee the conduct of searches and seizure of contraband ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures particularly with tool audits and tool security registers.
- Participate in offender management practice, procedures, and the implementation of new initiatives, particularly related to the integration of training in industry.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated computer skills (Familiar with Department suite of software and Microsoft Office Suite).
- Relevant industry experience, ideally correctional, industry / vocational or related field experience would be desirable.
- Knowledgeable about modern production techniques, and equipment relevant to Industrial production environments.
Qualifications
- Prior to commencement you will be required to obtain a current Statement of Attainment for the First Aid unit HLTAIDO11 Provide First Aid.
- A full and current Victorian driver's licence or a minimum P2 driver's licence.
- Completion of the Prison Officer Pre-service Training or a willingness to undertake and complete the provided Prison Officer Pre-Service Training is required.
