The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Policy and Projects Officer to provide a critical role within Justice Health
About the Business Unit
Justice Health is responsible for:
- the delivery of primary health, primary mental health and specialist forensic mental health services for people in Victorian prisons and young people in custodial centres. In Victoria, health services to people in adult correctional and youth justice facilities are delivered by both public and private providers
- managing relevant contractual arrangements, including overseeing the delivery of health services and the provision and maintenance of all medical records in an electronic medical record
- facilitating the release of health information to community health care providers, legal representatives, and individuals
- the design, procurement and delivery of new and innovative, evidenced-based health services that meet the needs of people of all ages and genders in custody.
The Contracts and Performance Unit includes teams responsible for: contract management of all custodial health providers; data analysis to inform performance oversight and service improvements; and coordinating and driving service enhancements.
The Service Development team works across Justice Health on policies, projects and continuous improvement activities that support the business unit in its mission to ensure health service delivery in prison and youth justice custodial environments provides effective health outcomes, aligns with legislative requirements, and supports government priorities.
About the Role
The Policy and Projects Officer provides and/or contributes to a range of policy documents, such as advice, reports, briefings, presentations and correspondence on matters relating to the health and wellbeing of prisoners and young people in custody.
You are responsible for engaging with internal and external stakeholders in relation to key issues and change agendas. The role supports Justice Health's internal governance arrangements, including providing secretariat and project support to key consultative and oversight committees

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Understanding of public policy processes, ideally relating to justice, health or related fields
- Strong conceptual analysis, problem-solving and strategic thinking skills.
Qualifications/requirements
- A suitable tertiary qualification or relevant experience in public policy, health, justice or law would be well regarded.
