The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Project Officer, to provide a critical role within Loddon Prison and Middleton.
About the Business Unit
Located at Castlemaine Loddon Prison is a 477-bed medium security prison for sentenced male prisoners. Adjacent to Loddon Prison is Middleton, a 236-bed restricted minimum-security prison for sentenced male prisoners. The focus of both prisons is rehabilitation via individual case management, employment, education, training and also the provision of programs and targeted interventions to address offending behaviour and promote the development of prosocial behaviour. Both prisons provide contemporary and quality correctional services that prepare prisoners for transition and reintegration.
About the Role
Reporting to the Performance and Planning Manager, the Project Officer is responsible for supporting strategic planning, and coordinating projects including analysis and preparation of complex correspondence, along with monitoring local business performance and compliance with a focus on OH&S. The role is also responsible for a range of stakeholder management including the Independent Prison Visitors and liaison with other CV and DJCS business units.
Some of your duties will include:
- Coordinate and contribute to the preparation of the prison Business Plan and Risk Register including the planning, coordination, research and reporting against a range of prison business and risk management projects.
- Coordinate and oversee the Occupational Health & Safety portfolio in tandem with the prison leadership team and business partners.
- Undertake research and consultation to gather information, statistics and views on identified issues, providing analysis, interpretation and related reports and recommendations to the General Manager.
- Liaise, research, investigate, and respond to Freedom of Information Act requests, Independent Prison Visitors, Information Privacy Act compliance issues, and represent the prison at related meetings and forums.
- Under direction, investigate various issues and prepare complex correspondence, reports, briefing papers, and responses to the Minister, Commissioner's Office, stakeholders and members of the public.
- Supporting the Performance and Planning Manager with other duties as required.

About you
To be successful in this role:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in an operational correctional environment would be an advantage.
- A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable but not mandatory.
