Community Correctional Services (CCS) contributes to the safety of the community by applying practices that reduce reoffending and connect individuals to programs, services and community. CCS provides management of individuals on court orders, people who have committed serious sex offences on post sentence supervision and prisoners on parole.
About the role:
Court Assessment & Prosecutions Officers are responsible for supporting the operation of the Court Assessment and Prosecutions Service and applying relevant work practices. This includes conducting court assessments to determine an individual's suitability for a court order; facilitating the variation or cancellation of an order; or prosecuting individuals who fail to comply with their orders. Court Assessment & Prosecutions Officers will provide high quality evidence-based advice to the judiciary in relation to sentencing.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide timely, high quality, evidence-based advice to stakeholders (including the judiciary involved in the sentencing process) regarding an assessment of an individual's risk to community safety and their capacity to undertake a court order.
- Undertake an effective assessment of an individual's risk to community safety (and their capacity to undertake a court order) through the evaluation of factors that relate to an individual's offending behaviour. Provide advice and recommendations to the court for individual interventions to address this behaviour. Interventions are to maximise the responsiveness of the individual.
About you:
- A relevant qualification in social work or related law/human services discipline (preferred) or criminal justice, criminology (desirable) with work experience in a court advice, assessments or prosecutions related field (desirable).
- Completion of the Certificate III in Correctional Practice within 12 months of commencement (if assessed as necessary).
- Staff in these positions will be required to undertake and complete the internal Court Advice and Prosecutions training
