The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking aBusiness Support Officerwithin Stolen Generations Reparations Unit.
This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
About the Business Unit
The Aboriginal Justice Group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to connect, support and deliver better outcomes for the Aboriginal community. The group works in partnership with Traditional Owners and the Victorian Aboriginal community to embed the principles of self-determination in the justice sector.
The Stolen Generations Reparations Unit (SGRU) sits within the Aboriginal Justice Group and was established in January 2022 to deliver the Stolen Generations Reparations Package in Victoria. The team is committed to delivering a reparations process that is fully supported, accessible, transparent and trauma informed.
About the role:
The Business Support Officer reports to the Director and provides the SGRU with day-to-day business operations and administrative support. In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape and support key business unit reporting processes and the delivery of major priorities and programs for the Package. You will also be responsible for maintaining team processes and tools, meeting management, email coordination and other secretariat support tasks.
This role operates within a complex and dynamic environment that requires the capacity to exercise sound judgement, work collaboratively with stakeholders and deliver effective and timely actions. Information and record management, monitoring and reporting will also be a focus of this role.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Support the effective operations and functions of the Stolen Generations Reparations Unit by ensuring business needs are met and high-quality administrative services are provided.
- Support the delivery of key priorities determined by the Director, including those related to the delivery of restorative programs and whole of system reporting.
- Provide general administrative and secretariat support to the team, including meeting management and coordination of tasks.
- Manage and monitor the team's registers to track work progress and ensure that actions are followed up and completed in a timely manner.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships across the department and work in collaboration with various key stakeholders within the department and in other agencies.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community and the issues impacting on it.
- A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal Community.
- Developed organisational skills with the capacity to meet timelines, attention to detail, cooperative working approach within a team environment and able to balance competing priorities.
- Sound knowledge of Victorian government administrative processes.
