Full time and casual positions available

  • $32.60 per hour + super + penalty rates for evening, weekend and public holidays (casual roles)
  • $54,439 - $69,909 per hour + super + penalty rates for evening, weekend and public holidays (full time, ongoing roles)
  • Training (Mon-Fri) commences Monday 17 June 2019

Your career as a prison officer with Corrections Victoria

Prison officers are responsible for the day-to-day supervision of prisoners in the prison environment while also maintaining good order and the security of the prison. This is achieved through searches, escort duties, observing and assessing prisoner behaviour, operating security equipment and effectively responding to prison incidents.

Prison officers provide prisoners with leadership, advice, support and guidance. Being a positive role model, having a positive impact on the prisoner's lives, and seeing prisoner behaviour change for the better can be very rewarding for a prison officer. The role also involves collating information, writing case files and preparing a variety of reports.

  • We hire from a range of different industries, backgrounds and age brackets. Therefore, mature-aged candidates are also encouraged to apply!
  • We have successfully appointed prison officers from a diverse range of industries including; trades, retail, security, transport, drivers, hospitality, manufacturing, construction, sales, farming, manufacturing, customer service and transport.

  • Choose to cover shifts at both Hopkins Correctional Centre in Ararat and Langi Kal Kal prison in Trawalla (for casual roles).
  • Gain a more holistic understanding of how the prison works through exposure across various units within the prison.
  • Receive notice of shifts in advance to late notice shifts (for casual roles).


About Hopkins Correctional Centre, Ararat

  • Medium security prison based in Ararat.
  • Houses a high percentage of male prisoners with protection requirements including those in remand.
  • Hopkins Correctional Centre is one of our most recently revamped correctional centres with modern features and comfortable facilities.
  • Prisoners are required to work or study to remain in the facility. Industries available for prisoners to work and study include metalwork, horticulture and various TAFE courses.

About Langi Kal Kal Prison, Trawalla

  • Minimum security male prison based on a farm setting.
  • Is used as a minimum security pathway for protection prisoners from Hopkins Correctional Centre.
  • Inmates are involved in paid work in a variety of trades, which assists the individuals gaining skills and certificates that can be used in finding a career once released.
  • Communal areas such as shared housing is used, assisting with prisoners in their transition back into society.

Pre-employment checks

At the final stages of the recruitment process, we'll speak to your professional referees. We will also conduct national criminal checks. It is important to disclose all relevant details as instructed in the forms we will provide.

These will include:

  • National Criminal Record Check (and fingerprints check). 
  • Pre-employment security check. 
  • Vic Roads License Check (or interstate or overseas if applicable). 
  • Victoria Police Check.  

Please note, a full and current Victorian driver's licence or a P2 driver's licence is also required.


Pre-Service Medical and Physical Capability Assessment 

Due to the potential physical requirements of the role you are required to have a healthy level of fitness. You are also required to pass a medical assessment for OH&S purposes.
