At the Department of Justice and Community Safety, we're looking for people who want to make a difference. People who take pride in their work. People who want to help others. People who are committed to making Victoria a safer place.

We embrace diversity and strive to have a workforce that reflects the community we serve. We're all about recruiting the best people, people who are passionate about community safety, offender rehabilitation and helping others by passing on practical skills. This is a role that will allow you to truly make a difference by helping us to deliver some of the programs that allow offenders to give back to the community.

Some of these programs include:

  • Graffiti removal
  • Maintaining our community parks and gardens
  • General maintenance at schools and other organisations
  • Horticultural programs
  • Inhouse programs to cater for those with medical restrictions
  • Tree planting and other important environmental work

Our Field Officers transport and supervise offenders participating in work teams and programs as part of a community work order. They are responsible for:

  • Supervision and delegation of work
  • Recording attendance
  • Reporting any issues
  • Ensuring safe work practices and a safe work environment
  • Demonstrating tasks and passing on practical skills
  • Dealing with difficult behaviour.

Field Officers are positive role models and represent The Department of Justice and Community Safety in the community. They consistently demonstrate resilience, flexibility and adaptability, exceptional interpersonal skills, initiative and accountability and empathy and cultural awareness.

Based in Dandenong with work across the South East Metropolitan and South Bayside areas, these positions are casual and may require weekend work.

To be successful you must have a current full Victorian Driver's Licence and be experienced and comfortable towing a large trailer whilst driving a 12-seater bus. We also value practical trade skills such as wood working, mechanical, landscaping, cooking, etc.  You do not need to be experienced in working with the offender population.

We're proud of the important work we do in regions all across Victoria. Want to be part of it?

During the COVID19 crisis all of our assessment processes will be facilitated remotely using various online tools. The Recruitment Services Team will work with you to find the most convenient method to ensure the safety and well being of our candidates and staff members.  No face to face contact is required and induction training will also be completed online for those who are successful in securing a position with us.
