Senior Contract Officer, Private Prisons

  • Responsible for the contract management and compliance of the Private Prison portfolio

An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Contract Officer on an ongoing basis in the Contract Management Branch within Corrections Victoria.

The Contract Management Branch is responsible for the administration of a number of major prison and prisoner transport contracts as well as oversight of other contracts managed within Corrections Victoria.

The Contract Management Branch (CMB) within Corrections Victoria (CV) manages the Victorian Private Prison Contracts, in addition to a number of prisoner related contracts across CV.

With the third private prison in Ravenhall scheduled to become operational at the end of 2017, the CMB are seeking an experienced person to move into the role of Senior Contract Officer.

This role will report into the General Manager, Private Prison Contract.

The Senior Contract Officer will be responsible for monitoring and validating the performance and compliance of the individual contracts being managed by the CMB.

This role will contribute to the ongoing contract management within the branch and ensure that business requirements are being maintained.

Supporting the entire Private Prison portfolio, this role will be a senior representative for the CMB and the main point of contact when onsite at the prison locations.

The Senior Contract Officer will benefit from experience within a correctional environment, as well as having a broader commercial and business background.

A key component of this role will be developing complex written documentation to be viewed by senior and executive stakeholders within the department and the wider government, including external contractors and external stakeholders. 

These will be highly detailed and multi-faceted documents and will require excellent written communication.

This role will be required to work both in the Melbourne Head-Office as well as on-site at the various prison locations, which may at times require overnight travel.


Some of the key requirements:

  • Ensuring the contracts managed within the CMB adhere to Corrections Victoria's contract obligations
  • Reviewing and reporting on the delivery of contracts, including performance and validation reviews
  • Providing analysis and conclusions relating to contractual or operational issues, and provide resolution
  • Providing advice on the delivery of contracts, projects, budgets and other issues relevant to the CMB
  • Ensuring prompt and cost effective actions are taken to ensure contract compliance is maintained.


As our ideal candidate, you will be required to demonstrate:

To be successful you will have:

  • Experience in contract management, and proven ability to provide expert contract advice
  • The ability to prepare comprehensive written documentation including commercial and contractual analysis
  • Strong commercial acumen, and be proactive and driven
  • Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation and resolution skills
  • Ideally an understanding of the Corrections environment
