Reporting to the Regional Director Grampians Region, the General Manager Workforce Strategy & Services (WS&S) is responsible for developing and leading workforce development strategies and building capability in the management of human resources across the Grampians Region DJR locations.

The functional areas reporting to the General Manager WS&S are Human Resources, Workforce Development, Payroll (regional prisons), Occupational Health & Safety and WorkCover/Return to Work. The branch is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of a range of services that support the Grampians Region key ‘people' functions and strategic goals.  The General Manager WS&S is responsible for the development and implementation of effective frameworks, policies and procedures that ensure the region has the capability to attract, retain, develop and engage a capable workforce that is reflective of its diverse community and service delivery requirements.

This role also provides region wide advice on entitlements and remuneration issues, as well as overseeing the provision of specialist technical advice and support in relation to Workplace Relations, Work Cover and Recruitment. Internal relationships with the Grampians Regional Executive Committee (GREC) and Department of Justice & Regulation (DJR) People & Culture Division are critical to the effective functioning of this role.

The Grampians Region encompasses the medium security Hopkins Correctional Centre and minimum security HM Prison Langi Kal Kal, and Justice Service Centres in Ballarat and Horsham which provide Community Correctional Services, Youth Justice, Sheriff's operations, Community Services including Consumer Affairs, Dispute Settlement and front of house enquiries (including Births, Deaths and Marriages applications).

This position may require direct prisoner contact and may involve weekend and public holiday work.

As our ideal candidate, you will be required to demonstrate:

  • Knowledge and expertise in generalist human resources functions, including the ability to administer payroll and relevant legislation and employment conditions, recruitment, Work Cover and file management
  • Experience working in human resources at a senior level
  • High level awareness of contemporary developments in human resource and people management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CHRIS21 and other payroll systems.
