About us

H.M. Prison Langi Kal Kal is located 140km west of Melbourne at Trawalla. It is a working farm currently providing accommodation for up to 428 minimum security male prisoners with low to medium protection requirements.

About the role

We are currently seeking a suitably qualified and experienced individual who can lead staff and a prisoner team to deliver agriculture activities.

As the Farm Supervisor, you will have responsibility for the management of the Langi Kal Kal farm which is more than 1,000 hectares in size, with over 2,000 self-replacing ewes producing 3,000 lambs annually and 260 spring calving Angus Stud cows. The role will include meeting agriculture and commercial production targets, working with customers and stakeholders, maintaining control of stock, materials, financial records and providing a vocational training environment with a focus on rehabilitation outcomes for prisoners.

Reporting to the Industry Manager, you will join the supervisor team which leads and manages a range of commercial production industries - poultry (eggs), metal-fabrication, textiles and land-mate (environmental and community services), and also service activities such as kitchen and catering, laundry & horticulture.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • an appropriate trade qualification and/or experience relevant to the Farm Industry, preferably in agricultural management
  • demonstrated experience in management of a broad acre property producing beef, sheep and crops including the ability to plan production and develop budgets
  • detailed knowledge of animal husbandry, livestock nutrition, fodder conservation, pasture and property improvement programs
  • demonstrated leadership, maturity, sound judgement and confidence in decision making with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate staff and prisoners.

As this is a custodial role, the successful applicant will also be required to complete the Prison Officer Pre-Service training if this has not already been undertaken.
