An exciting opportunity exists for a Policy Officer to research and develop new policy within Victoria's correctional system.

About us

The Strategic Policy and Planning Division within Corrections Victoria manages governance, strategic and legal policy and planning functions for the delivery of correctional services, and undertakes consultation, research, evaluation, scenario modelling and analysis to provide authoritative advice and projections and help set the organisation's strategic direction.

The purpose of the Policy and Governance Branch is to ensure strategic policy initiatives governing corrections are maintained and developed in accordance with Corrections Victoria's broader objectives and priorities.  Team members are expected to draw upon subject matter experts to develop operationally relevant policy responses to these issues.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Policy, the Policy Officer will be responsible for undertaking research, identifying and analysing emerging policy trends and providing authoritative advice to senior management about those issues.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work across Corrections Victoria and the department to develop, review and implement new correctional policy initiatives
  • Research, investigate and prepare departmental documents on policy issues
  • Provide advice to senior management on the development and implementation of correctional services policy and strategies
  • Identify issues and liaise with key stakeholders to determine policy options.

About you

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of legislative frameworks
  • Knowledge or defined interest in corrections and the criminal justice system
  • Well-developed writing and researching skills
  • Experience in developing policy advice and managing projects
  • Experience within public service policy development is advantageous
