About us

Located a short 30 minute drive from both Wangaratta and Wodonga, Beechworth Correctional Centre is a minimum-security prison for men, with a focus on preparing offenders for their release back into the community.

About the role

As the Industry Officer - Metal Fabrication, you will be responsible for managing and delivering a variety of metal fabrication work within the prison. This includes:

  • training and supervising prisoners employed within the prison's metal fabrication industry
  • instructing prisoners in the correct use of tools, machinery and equipment
  • ensuring compliance with safe operating procedures and other OH&S requirements
  • maintaining security and control over prisoner movements. 

This is a multi-disciplinary role and industry staff may be required to work in other areas of the prison according to operational requirements.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • trade experience in metal fabrication, welding or engineering, together with appropriate qualifications
  • up-to-date knowledge of modern metal fabrication techniques and the use and maintenance of industry equipment
  • leadership, maturity, and sound judgement - you will lead by example and be a positive role model
  • excellent communication skills, with the ability to motivate and influence others.

Please note, the successful applicant will be required to complete the eight week Corrections Officer Program within six months from commencement. Particular mental and physical capabilities are required for this role and a pre-service medical and physical capability assessment will be conducted. The successful applicant will also be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include national police checks and misconduct screening.
