About us

H.M. Prison Dhurringile is a minimum security prison for men, with a focus on preparing offenders for their release back into the community.

About the role

As the Horticulture Officer, you will be responsible for the management and delivery of the horticulture industry function within the prison.

In the role, you will:

  • oversee the efficient and effective management of the horticulture industry
  • assist with the management of prisoner employment, ensure all prisoners are assigned adequate work
  • ensure equipment is maintained in good working order and maintain general cleanliness of the work site
  • ensure safe operating procedures and other Occupational Health and Safety requirements are compliant with prison procedures.

Please note that industry staff maybe required to work in various areas according to operational requirements.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • qualifications or experience in Vegetable Farming, including plant/soil nutrition and disease and pest management
  • sound knowledge of OH&S requirements relevant to Horticulture
  • leadership, maturity, sound judgement, confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners
  • successful completion of the Corrections Officer Program will be required.
