About us

Middleton is a restricted-minimum rated men's prison located within the Loddon Prison Precinct. Prisoners at Middleton live in self-catered, cottage style accommodation where they are responsible for cooking their own meals.

At the precinct there are a variety of Industries in which the prisoners work to meet commercial production targets and customer expectations.

About the role

As a Prison Industry Officer, your initial focus will be on the management and delivery of the food packaging and warehousing industry, under the guidance of a Prison Industry Supervisor. You may be required to move industries across the precinct, so adaptability is essential.

In the role, you will:

  • lead and manage prisoners in the industry areas to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff and visitors
  • monitor and achieve targets in a complex trade or industrial environment including other administrative tasks related to financial budgets, materials and supplier's records and accounts, while maintaining work production schedules
  • liaise with internal staff and external stakeholders and provide analytical and informed contributions to develop and deliver programs and processes
  • train and instruct prisoners in positive work habits and ensure implementation of safe practices in the work place
  • supervise prisoners within an industry environment with detailed attention to prisoner operating plant or equipment and ensure that adherence to compliance codes and the OH&S Act.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • qualifications or relevant experience in a food based industry and warehousing and logistics
  • good computer skills and satisfactory working knowledge of OH&S policy
  • highly developed communication, negotiation and problem solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively to achieve work plans and goals
  • leadership, maturity, sound judgement, confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners.
