About Us

Corrections Victoria operates Victoria's adult corrections system, including prisons and Community Correctional Services (CCS). It ensures prisoners are safely and securely contained, and aims to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.

A Department of Justice service agency headed by the Corrections Commissioner, Corrections Victoria manages 60 Community Correctional Services locations across Victoria and 11 public prisons, as well as overseeing two privately operated prisons. Corrections Victoria's mission is to deliver a safe and secure corrections system that actively engages offenders and the community to promote positive behaviour change.

About the Role

As our Senior Industry Officer, you will be responsible for industry training, work and employment in the prison environment. You will contribute to the effective operation of the prison industry area, Canteen, through developing knowledge of industry training procedures, industry systems and processes and the application of trade skills. This will include the assessment of workflow priorities, allocation of workload and team-based responsibilities.

An important facet of the role involves liaison with internal staff and external stakeholders to make informed contributions to the development and delivery of programs and processes, including daily computer data input as part of monitoring, recording and managing industry production processes.

Senior Industry Prison Officers play an integral role in offender management and the implementation and support of offender management plans. They actively participate in teams and reference groups to provide advice through written reports to Industry Supervisors and Senior Management. Custodial duties include conducting searches, surveillance, observing and assessing prisoner behaviour in the trade areas, and operating a variety of security and industrial equipment, collating information and preparing reports and management of critical incidents.

Your role will require maturity, sound judgement and confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners.

About You

  • qualifications or experience as a Caterer, Cook, Chef, Trade Cook, Baker, Patisserie or other similar equivalent
  • excellent leadership skills, with the ability to develop others
  • good people management skills
  • great problem solving and decision making skills.

Applicants must have successfully completed, or be willing to undertake, the Corrections Victoria pre-service training program.
