Who we are

In the Strategic Policy and Planning Division of Corrections Victoria we are the analysts, writers, networkers and researchers who help formulate the strategic direction of Corrections Victoria.  Corrections Victoria, as a major business unit within the Department of Justice and Regulation, is a key pillar of the State's criminal justice system and plays a unique role in contributing to the Government's community safety agenda. Our division plays a central role within the organisation in developing and influencing evidence-based correctional policies.

The General Manager, Strategic Policy and Projects reports to the Director, Strategic Policy and Planning and is responsible for leading and developing a high-performing team in fulfilling the responsibilities and functions of the Strategic Policy and Projects Branch. The General Manager also contributes to strategic and business planning across Corrections Victoria, as required, and to the development of briefings, documents and advice for the Minister for Corrections, relevant Government committees, and senior departmental executives.

The position is responsible for:

  • High level leadership to develop a high-performing team in fulfilling the responsibilities and functions of the Branch, including directing, managing and supporting staff, and facilitating professional growth and career development.
  • Leading the development of policy responses that address and resolve a range of      Corrections-wide and/or whole-of-government issues, particularly those with significant organisational impact or risk.
  • Providing authoritative and strategic advice and briefings to Ministers, senior      departmental executives and key stakeholders on complex correctional policy issues, drawing on detailed knowledge of contemporary best practice locally and in other jurisdictions, national and international.

About You

As our ideal candidate, you will be required to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in the ability to develop innovative and effective strategic responses to contemporary and emerging issues and trends in Corrections Victoria.
  • Strong policy skills and experience, with the ability to provide sound evidence-based policy advice in a human services environment.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills and experience which enable the achievement of shared outcomes.
  • Understanding of the key issues impacting Corrections Victoria, particular with legislative, social, political and industrial frameworks.
