The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Principal Analyst to provide a critical role within the Policy, Strategy and System Outcomes branch.
About the Business Unit
The Principal Analyst role sits within Policy Strategy and Systems Outcomes (PSSO). PSSO provides strategic advice and develops policy to improve rehabilitation and reintegration outcomes for people across the corrections system, including in prisons and community corrections. This is a critical component of the department's strategy to reduce offending, keep people out of prison and contribute to community safety.
About the Role
In this newly created role, The Principal Analyst will be a member of the System Analysis and Outcomes team within PSSO. System Analysis and Outcomes delivers strategic analysis of system trends and service needs to address system gaps, develops measurement frameworks to inform investment and reform, and drives evidence-based CJS policy and research and evaluation priorities.
The role will provide strategic, data driven advice on whole of corrections system trends, including the impacts of bail reform, delivering authoritative analysis to support system responses to reforms and to provide a deeper understanding of the changing profile of people in the system.
The role operates within a complex and dynamic environment that requires a capacity to exercise sound judgement, and the ability to proactively develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders
Some of your duties will include:
- Lead the provision of insightful analysis and authoritative advice to senior departmental executives
- Lead investigations of business and system wide data sets and evaluate data from multiple sources
- Provide expert advice on the quality, accuracy and relevance of data
- Proactively build and maintain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic insights into corrections system trends and effectiveness based on best practice data analysis techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse, interpret, present and communicate quantitative and quantitative data from a range of sources to a range of audiences
- Excellent conceptual and analytical skills with ability to analyse complex data in the context of operational and policy decision making.
Qualifications/requirements
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is strongly preferred.
