Exciting opportunities exist for full time Review Officers in the Justice Assurance and Review Office.

About us

The Justice Assurance and Review Office (JARO) is a business unit in the Regulation Division which operates as an internal review and assurance function to advise the Secretary, Department of Justice and Regulation (DJR) on the performance of the youth justice and correctional systems.

JARO exists separately and independently from the department's Youth Justice Division and Corrections Victoria and acts as an additional line of defence against emerging and enduring risk within both systems.

JARO provides the Secretary with current, objective information on areas of risk, the adequacy of existing controls and opportunities for improvement across the youth justice and correctional systems.

About the role

JARO is seeking self-starting motivated Review Officers who are committed to providing high quality assurance to the Secretary, DJR on the performance of the youth justice and correctional systems.  The successful applicants will participate in reviews into significant incidents and emerging youth justice and correctional system issues in a dynamic and changing environment.  

The Review Officer reports to the Manager, Reviews and will use a risk-based approach to conduct correctional system reviews to identify emerging issues and trends. The role operates within a dynamic environment that requires the capacity to exercise sound judgement to identify risk and take action.

  • Interested in contributing to change and continuous improvement across the youth justice and correctional systems 
  • A dedicated team member with the ability to contribute to complex reviews within strict timeframes 
  • Creative and able to contribute to critical thinking and problem solving to address systemic issues 
  • A strong writer with the ability to prepare/contribute to evidence-based reports
