Reporting to the General Manager Business Services, the Human Resources (HR) Senior Consultant plays a key role in the effective and efficient delivery of a range of HR services that support the North West Metropolitan Area key people functions, strategic goals and direction. This role leads and consults on conduct and performance issues, recruitment, workforce development and employee relations. This role also provides area wide advice on entitlements and remuneration issues, as well as overseeing the provision of advice and support in relation to Recruitment. Key internal relationships with the Department of Justice and Regulation (DJR) central payroll and HR teams are critical to the function. 

About you 

  • Knowledge and expertise in HR, with demonstrated extensive experience in employee relations 
  • Experience in workforce development, recruitment, file management 
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the application of relevant legislation employment conditions such as the VPS Enterprise Agreement 
  • High level awareness of contemporary developments in HR and people management 
  • Leadership expertise to effectively address stakeholder issues, influencing others to identify opportunities and broker long-lasting solutions 
  • A HR qualification will be highly regarded and demonstrated knowledge of CHRIS21 or other payroll systems is desirable. 

The North West Metropolitan Area Human Resources and Business Support Stream is responsible for providing a range of corporate support functions including human resources, workforce development, workforce wellbeing and administration services. This area accounts for approximately 1300 staff across 13 sites. These sites are located in either the North or West of the Area and deliver a range of services including: custodial services at prisons, Community Correctional Services, Sheriff's Operations, Consumer Affairs, front of house enquiries (including Births, Deaths and Marriages applications) and management of community services (including Victims' Support across the area). In addition, there are two Executive Officer roles of the Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Council, West and North.  

Located across the North West Metropolitan Area are nine non-custodial locations in Carlton, Broadmeadows, Reservoir, Heidelberg, Greensborough, Melton, Sunshine, Werribee and the Neighbourhood Justice Centre in Collingwood. There are four custodial locations: maximum security prisons Metropolitan Remand Centre, Dame Phyllis Frost Centre and Melbourne Assessment Prison and the minimum security Judy Lazarus Transition Centre.
