Instrumental new executive level role to identify and respond to prison operations across the state and provide high level strategic advice senior executives within Corrections Victoria and the department.

About us

As a business unit of the Department of Justice and Regulation, Corrections Victoria is responsible for implementing court judgments and orders of the Adult Parole Board and Post Sentence Authority. It sets strategy, policy and standards for the management of the state's system of correctional facilities. It also develops programs for the management and rehabilitation of prisoners and the community-based supervision of offenders.

About the role

A new executive officer opportunity exists in Corrections Victoria to provide high-level technical advice on custodial matters, related organisational issues and support prison managers to achieve a standard of excellence in the delivery of custodial services.

This key role supports identifying and responding to areas of prison operations that require strong leadership and a statewide approach, such as industrial relations, health and safety, or a level of internal oversight or review. The role operates within a complex and dynamic environment that requires highly developed problem solving, stakeholder management skills, professional integrity, and the ability to work collaboratively.

The role of Assistant Commissioner, Custodial Services reports to the Deputy Commissioner, Operations and is responsible for managing a significant program of work, including collaborating closely with Regional Executives, Prison General Managers and senior management.

  • technical expertise and leadership in the delivery of custodial operations
  • exceptional leadership and influencing skills, including with diverse stakeholder groups on highly complex issues
  • ability to develop far-reaching and strategic solutions to complex operational situations
  • developing large scale change management initiatives, assessing needs and opportunities to address systemic issues
