Our graduate program aims to recruit high quality graduates who have a breadth of perspectives and expertise and launch their careers within the department.

Over the 12-month program, graduates will work on a range of current public issues to make a difference to the wider community.  Our graduates:

  • gain valuable experience by undertaking work rotations with two or more business units, contributing to a variety of project activities and operational tasks for the relevant business unit
  • have access to executive level mentoring and dedicated graduate support
  • have access to the Koori Staff Network and Koori Youth Network (if under the age of 25) of over one hundred members, including access to all opportunities, support and events related to the networks, including the annual Koori Staff Network Conference
  • have access to extra support from the Koori Employment Team, around work or cultural related questions, including career development opportunities and work place relations
  • are part of a formal learning and development program and group learning project,  where you will have the opportunity to collaborate with fellow graduates and develop your knowledge and skills in; research, policy, report writing, team building, project, risk, time and stakeholder management.

  • applicants must identify as being of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • applicants must have completed or be in the final year of a minimum three-year undergraduate degree (Bachelor or equivalent, or post-graduate studies)
  • applicants must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen with a valid passport
  • applicants must not have taken a VDP from the VPS within the past three years at time of application
